The following page is mostly for Mecha Gamers, Five Star Stories fans might want to look here for just MH stats and numbers from the series.
Well old time Mekton players may burn me in effigy for this, but I have gone up on the mountain and come back with
a vision of how to build Mortar Headds. There were two ways at first, and at first I thought I'd build all the
Mortar Headds in Mekton's 1 to 1 scale, only using 40+ ton units, and capping Mortar Headd weight around 59 tons.
Then triple whatever the weight came out to, one very big Mortar Headd, the Jagd Mirage weighs 300+ tons which
would just be a Megaheavy 100+ ton unit and that would be that. I decided that took a lot of early on headwork
I didn't want to do, and didn't really make the MH as tough as they seemed.
The Second method calls for building all the Mortar Headds out to Nagano's given weights, making the lightest thing
in existence an empty Led Mirage at 112 tons. This is the Mekton players burning me in effigy part... All Mortar
Headds will use the Thought Control rules, this perfectly accommodates the Fatimas crystal interface, _and_ reflects
somewhat how the Headliners can control many of the MH systems with only 2 handles, 2 foot pedals, and a helmet
which monitors brainwaves. Mortar Head cockpits are likely Virtual Cockpits, not Reflex, Screen or Manual ones.
This would make the lightest MH have a maximum MV of -8 and the bare minimum for the heaviest MH as well. The second
part of my burning as the stake takes something form the Mekton Zeta plus book to its logical conclusion.
Mortar Headds use Cool, Bioenergy powerplants...
I'll wait for this to sink in, Fatimas equipped Mortar Headds always outperform Etriml equipped Mortar Headds.
Fatimas come in 3 real grades, which is Factory produced (Standard), Designer Fatima (Overcharged), and Fatima
Masterpiece (Super). We have seen Fatima Clotho take the Junchoon into the equivalent of a Turbocharger (V-Max)
event - Just like in the Bioenergy Powerplant text, and Fatimas already cost more than some Mekton subsystems.
The benefits to the GM include, kidnapping the player's Fatimas, drugging them, tell the Fatima she has to rig
it so her master loses a fight, or else he'll be killed afterwards (Fatimas will do _anything_ to protect their
master) to me this handled a couple of tough questions as to why Fatimas were really needed for Mortar Headds.
This also answers why Mortar Headds suffer when the Fatima is knocked unconscious, or suffers loss of actions due
to knockback.
Fatimas are still the ultimate co-pilot, and they can run Comm and ECM systems, as well as sensors, and Teleport
arrays.
Now that that is out in the open, lets get on to the big machines themselves. |

BS Means just exactly that, I'm indicating that there are bogus stats in the entry based on a guess, all bogus
stats are Red.
Here are some really Early mech sheets, basically outlines, and little else... they will fill out with time...

| That said, here are some notes about various MZ+ systems as they affect Mortar Headds. I'm posting updates to this
as I have time to do so, some of the systems are empty or incomplete, but I have notes on most of the MZ+ systems
as they are seen in Five Star Stories, and will be updating this page frequently as new decisions are made about
the game. |
| Servos |
|
| Pods |
|
| Wheels & Treads |
|
| Armor |
Pretty much Standard MZ+ armor, except that the Mirages, and other Mecha seem to have about 4K of permanent armor
built into the legs, torso and arms of the unit, with anywhere from 3-6K more that is mounted onto every location
with a Quick Change Mount. Not only does a LED Mirage drop all of the extra skirt armor it can once in a battle,
but Skirts, and Shoulderpads seem to change style every 20 years or so in the Naganoverse. ***(LED Mirages have
between 98mm and 320mm of armor over their various locatons)*** |
| ....Refined Armor |
LED Mirages use B grade armor at least, as exemplified by the idea that a 4K 120mm APDS round would only penetrate
5mm into its Neochitin armor. ***(This might have been 125mm, and if it was then its a Soviet 125mm that would
only be about 3K)*** |
| ....RAM Armor |
LED Mirages have Laser Reflectors add-ons to their Torso that bend incoming attacks around the main body of the
Mortar Head, they don't absorb or dissipate the energy. ***(Apparently there is a set of Laser Absorbent panels
available for the LED Mirage that goes where the current reflectors go)*** |
| Beam Weapons |
Usually only found in Anti-Personnel, and Anti-Missile weapons, very few Mortar Headds use Beam Guns probably because
of the ubiquity of Beam Reflector technology, but the most powerful Beam Weapons - Busters seem to be unaffected
by them. Its curious that Colus, and AKD tanks have these Beam Reflectors, but the Birudo Mortar Headd either didn't
have one to save him from the Douglas Caine's laser attack from the Schepeltor, OR the Metrotekchrome storm going
on at the time made the Beam Reflector useless. |
| E-Melee Weapons |
Many MH carry Energy Swords, very few other EMWs have been seen. Other than that, some high end MH carry EMWs in
the hilts of their regular Melee Weapons. |
| Melee Weapons |
Many Mortar Headds carry Swords, some carry EMWs in the hilts of their Swords, Nations such as the Trio de Colus
Dynasty, and the Phillmore Empire equip their Mortar Headds with Lances as well |
| Missiles |
Its been shown that Sirens keep missiles in their Forearm shields, like the one used by Phillmore's Vralgo Kentauri
in his Siren when fighting the Junchoon, two missiles fired from the Shield, and hit Junchoon in the head, even
as the Siren's sword was still cutting through Junchoon's torso. Other examples of missiles in the Naganoverse
include S-Mines which are like short range mines that will shoot out of the MH and explode in midair somewhere
between the attacker, and his opponent, as well as T-Mines that launch much like S-Mines, except they land on the
ground and wait for the enemy to come closer before they explode. |
| Projectile Weapons |
|
| Energy Pools |
|
| Weapon Mating |
As previously mentioned EMWs mated as the hilt of regular MTK Swords, and some Energy weapons mated into MH Lances
such as the Peidol Spires of the Trio de Colus. |
| Shields |
|
| ....Binder Space |
Some MH pack projectile and missile weapons into their shields, others pack extra melee weapons |
| ....Active Shields |
The A-Toll has models that carry one or two active shields, one on each shoulder, and they are very fearsome opponents
in combat. |
| Crew |
|
| Sensors |
|
| ....Target Analyzer |
Used extensively by Fatimas to figure out the capabilities of the enemy MH |
| Electronic Warfare |
All MH seem to have Comm jamming capabilities, and some sensor jamming as well |
| Remote Control |
Lots of sensor drones used by MH especially before Teleport, funny since there always seems to be some kind of
Comm jamming going on. |
