This is my Characters Page, here are many of the MS Gundam characters, and some from other
series in Gundam that were fighting in the One Year War, or were from around in this time period. Others such as
Zeon Daikun the father of Colonialism, the namesake of Zeon, the father of two characters, and overall space legend
is included because everyone of the time period knew who he was. If you haven't guessed it by now, most of this
site was information I found while creating my 0079 campaign, and all of these things are important background
if you are trying to run a game. Suppose you want to run a group of Federation MS pilots, then they might run into
our first two guests, even though no one sees Gato, or Delaz until the 0083 animated series, they both fought in
the One Year War.
Allguile Delaz - Delaz is the last of the really great Zeon officers, there
are some that come close, but most of them pale by comparison. Delaz fosters the cause for three years, biding
his time, and conserving his forces. By using his men and mecha wisely Delaz nearly did with Operation Stardust
what the entire nation of Zeon could not in accomplish 0079.
A Strategist and tactician, Delaz only real weakness was that he had to rely on Cima's fleet to complete his plan.
If he had another ship full of troops, he might have been able to crater Jaburo on his own. |
Anavel Gato - A feared MS pilot, Anavel Gato's legend had reached historic proportions
by 0083. Surely he had to do something during the war to earn these high honors. The Nightmare of Solomon they
called him, in a battle with so many other overwhelming opponents, Big Zam, and later the Elmeth, Gato must have
been fearsome in his Gelgoog to have earned him the name. Anavel also loved Nina Purpleton, the MS designer behind
the GP-01, and GP-02, was she one of the Zeon techs that was rumored to go with Anaheim after the war? |
Amuro Rey - This is our hero Amuro Rey. At the Beginning of the MS Gundam series
he is living in the Side 7 colony when it is attacked. Amuro takes charge of the Gundam, and begins a piloting
career that will last for nearly ten years. Amuro grows up a little during the series, mostly in Zeta, and definitely
by Char's Counterattack. I find him to be a bit of a whiner, and maybe that is all part of being a powerful Newtype.
Quess Pariah was probably the biggest whiner in the series, and look how powerful a Newtype she was. Come to think
of it so was Camille Vidan, another powerful Newtype. |
Bosque Ohm - Bosque shows his ugly head in the Zeta series, and in the 0083
series, but I have little doubt that he was making trouble in the One-Year war as well.
Bosque forms the Titans after 0083 concludes. A truly evil and manipulating person, Bosque is a Federation officer
of some rank by 0083, and this is why I believe that he was probably more than just a grunt in 0079. |
Bright Noah - Bright Noah is the Captain of the White Base, although for much
of the series he is only a Lieutenant, his readiness to assume the mantle of Captain is evidence of his inner strength,
a strength that belies his often unassuming nature. Bright is probably the best-written character in the story
besides Char Aznable, and I think he has tougher choices to deal with. |
Cameron Bloom - Cameron fled the war in early 0079, moving to side 6. He had
been Mirai's betrothed, and though he still loves her, she can't fathom his cowardice. When the White Base left
Side 6 Cameron took his personal craft out in front of the Federation ship to assure its safety inside the colony's
neutral borders. This marks him as a brave and caring person in my book, just not someone with a heart for fighting.
In Char's Counterattack, Cameron takes another risks when his job at the Federation accounting bureau has him counting
millions in solid gold paid from Char to the Federation for the Asteroid Axis. Cameron tells Bright Noah in hopes
that Bright, and his crew can use the information to stop Char from destroying the Earth. |
Char Aznable - Char, the Red
Comet of Zeon was an ace pilot in the one year war, and by today's
standards, and ace just by his actions in the Battle of Ruum where he sunk 5 Federal ships with his modified red
Zaku. Char first came to Zeon in 0074 when he enlisted in the Army under an assumed name. His birth name was Caspar
Lum Daikun, and when his father died, he and his sister were secreted away to Earth as members of the wealthy Maas
family. Even as Edward Maas he still yearned for revenge on his fathers killers, and when he was old enough, he
took the name of Char Aznable, and went into space. Char was in charge of the September mission to investigate
Side 7. His crew reported back that they had found Federation Mobile Suits, and they would investigate further.
That is where the series really began. |
Cima Garahu - Leader of the Cima Fleet, Cima Fleet was a Special Forces team
that did the real dirty work of the Zeon Navy. They gassed colonies, and committed many other war crimes that normal
soldiers wouldn't. When the war was ending, the Cima fleet wasn't asked to come with the others that were retreating,
and they were left to fend for themselves. |
Degin Zavi |
Dozzle Zavi - Truly the fiercest soldier in all of Zeon, Dozzle had an aura
about him, and determination that even made Amuro wonder if he could win this horrible war. When Revil said there
is no one fit to be called a soldier left in Zeon, he obviously hadn't met Dozzle.
A man loyal to both his country and family, Dozzle is the most likeable of the Zavi clan. |
Frau Beau - Frau Beau is Amuro's teenage girlfriend, she dotes on him constantly,
and typically he ignores her. A good-natured person, Frau tells Amuro when he is about to do something stupid,
and cares very deeply about him. |
Gaia is one of the Black Tri Stars, a Zeon MS squad. All of them are aces, and
their teamwork is exquisite. Theoretically, no one would be able to anticipate all of the moves in their Jet Stream
Attack, and most MS couldn't move fast enough to take advantage of it if they did know what was going to hit them. |
My sources have this old war dog listed as Gademu. He was in charge of the Musai that re-supplied Sha's ship after
the attack on Side 7. I'm unsure of the name, but that is where I have seen him before |
Garma Zavi - A brash and incompetent officer Garma was given the title of Earth
forces commander. His brother Dozzle said that he would have been proud to serve under him. Garma was exactly the
kind of gentle and charismatic leader Zeon could have used, it is too bad that he was in such a rush to prove himself
to everyone. If he had only waited for Char, or anyone else to support him, he would likely have been the new ruler
of Zeon. |
| |
Giren Zavi - The Supreme Military Commander of Zeon, Giren was a petty dictator,
and his father the Duke called him the tail of Hitler. Always moving subtly in the background, there are many facets
of the war, plots and side stories yet to be told of the war for which he was responsible. Giren was responsible
for his own father's death, and was later shot to death in the head at close range by his sister Krishia, during
the battle of Abowaku. It was the loss of Giren, and later Krishia that convinced Delaz to withdraw his troops
from the defeat at Abowaku.
Giren was the man in Zeon you loved to hate. |
Hamon Ral |
Kai Shiden - Another favorite of mine, Kai Shiden is not the hero that Amuro
Rey is quite the opposite, Kai is selfish, and a quitter. He even abandons White Base when the going gets tough.
Amuro abandoned White Base once too, and like Amuro Kai returns to White Base and makes up for some of his mistakes.
Through much of the series, Kai pilots a Guncannon, not as powerful as the Gundam, but still a fearsome engine
of destruction in its own right. |
Karius - A close personal friend of Gato, and the last member of his original
flight squad. Karius was charged with getting Nina safely to the Axis fleet. When she took off for Earth, Karius
left with the other remnants of Zeon back to the Axis asteroid, after Operation Stardust was complete. Karius was
another pilot whose war exploits were unknown, but his peer group would indicate that he was in many of the battles
of the One-Year War. |
Kelly Layzner - Kelly was with Gato at Solomon, and that's where he lost his
arm. Kelly took the unfinished Val Varo, and attempted to rebuild it on the Von Braun Colony of the Moon. It took
him nearly three years, but the Mobile Armor was ready for Operation Stardust. I show him here only in profile
because I'm sure he was an even better pilot back when he had the use of both arms. Having been incapacitated during
the final battle at Abowaku, Kelly probably found it more difficult to let go of the war. Kelly was asked by his
wife to forget the war, but he like many Zeon soldier had to fight this war to its bitter inevitable conclusion
in 0083. |
Konsucon, his fleet was nearby Side 6 when the White Base was there. He was
supposed to attack them as soon as they left neutral territory. This would seem to be a lot of activity if you
take into account the attack on Side 6's Libol colony, when Bernie got shot down. The subsequent attack which covered
Bernie's entry back into the colony, which made the Riah government send all Zeon ships out of the neutral territory,
and the arrival of another White Base on the night that Garcia attacked the Gundam with the Kampfer. Finally Killing's
fleet was sent from Granada to attack this poor colony. So much was going in fact that no one even bothered to
clean up the dead MS laying all over the place. |
Admiral Kowen, the man behind the Gundam project that was supposed to bring
strength to the Federation. Kowen's project developed the GP-01, GP-02, and GP-03 in conjunction with Anaheim Electronics.
It is unfortunate that Kowen got railroaded when a Gundam got stolen, and used against Federation, but if anyone
looked too closely they might have stumbled into Hyman's secret plot so Kowen had to take the fall. A good man,
I'm sure his career in 0079 was an eventful one to have been trusted with such an important project. |
Krishia Zavi - Commander of the Zeon forces at Granada on the Moon, Krishia's
job was to keep the Federation from getting a firm enough foothold on the moon to attack Zeon directly. If her
troops had been reinforced sufficiently, she might have held out at Granada, and prolonged the war. Krishia tried
to make up for sheer numbers with Newtypes, and was primarily in charge of all those type of projects. Krishia
had already left for Solomon when Granada was being overrun, Commander Killing's exploits after that point led
to the eventual downfall of the base. |

Lalah Sun |
Ma Kube |
Manelli |
Michael/Michelle is a tragic character in Kai's life, and I missed her when
she died. Although she was a spy for Zeon, her motives were only to help her kid sister, and brother out after
their mother died. She more than repaid White Base for any trouble she caused when she gave her life defending
the ship with Kai on a missile carrier. She was killed by the backblast of the launcher when she had to fire the
missiles manually. Michelle was part of the Zeon network of spies in Ireland and reported frequently on the arrival
of Federation ships to the base near her home. When the White Base turned out to be more than just a routine report
on a passing ship, the money they offered her to track the White Base's movements was more than she could easily
refuse. She is probably not the only spy who reports this kind of information, and I'm quite sure Zeon had spies
around every Federation base but Jaburo during the war. |
Mineva Zavi |
Mirai Noah - Mirai pilots the White Base, and eventually marries Bright Noah.
Until then she is a budding Newtype, and the conscience of the White Base. |
Monsha - A drunken, lecherous sleazoid, Monsha is no slouch in a pilot's seat.
He loses the test pilot's job to Kou Uraki, when Kou beats him in a duel while piloting a Gundam. I believe Monsha
was just the unlucky victim of Kou's destiny. Kou didn't make it on this page because he was still a civilian when
Monsha was out fighting the Zeon in 0079, and that's why Monsha makes an appearance here. |
Nash or Matthews, is the last of the Black Tri Stars, all of them aces, the
Tri Stars were the same group that captured Revil during the battle of Ruum. The Tri Stars tried, but did not succeed
in stopping the White Base as it pushed on towards Jaburo. All three Doms tangled with the Gundam, and two of them
were destroyed by it. The third was killed by a Guncannon. |
Ortega, another of the Black Tri Stars. Ortega is a Zeon ace, and pilots a black
Dom like his brethren. |
Ranba Ral |
General Revil - This is General Revil, he is the Mastermind behind the Federation
Military strategy, and it is his reliance on the abilities of the White Base crew, Mobile Suits, and Newtypes in
general that turns the tide of the war against the Zeon forces. After the Battle of Ruum, the Black Tri-Stars captured
him, and he was taken to Zeon, in the last days of January he escaped, and made it back to Earth to make his famous
"Zeon is Exhausted" speech. Revil rallied the people of Earth not to give up in the fight against Zeon. |
Salia Maas - Char's sister, Salia Maas is torn between a war she despises, and
the path of revenge that her brother has chosen. She always tries to reach out to him. Another well written character,
even if she is annoying at times, hell, there are annoying people in real life. Salia's birth name was Artesia
Daikun, daughter of the colonial hero Zeon Daikun. |
Sharia Bull |
Sleggar Row |
South Burning, Lt. - Burning or Banning as I've seen it, was the MS pilot commander
for Torrington base in Australia, but I'd wager that wasn't his job in the war. Even if it was, they probably had
lots of cleanup to do after Sydney got hit, only there weren't any Federation MS that early in the war. Together
with Monsha, and the rest of his unit, I'm sure Burning had an active career. Active enough to ruin his marriage. |
Captain Synapse was the Captain of the Albion in 0083, since the White Base ships were such prestigious assignments it wouldn't be much of a stretch to imagine
him captaining a Magellan or Salamis in 0079. |
Yuri - The Skipper of the Yukon class submarine that rescued Gato in 0083, the
same class vessel that carried the Cyclops team in 0080. Yuri might have been the captain of that ship too, we
never found out what happened to them after the RX-78-NT-1 left that base, except the Cyclops team got back to
the moon a few days later. Certainly if he managed to keep his ship afloat this long, Yuri knew the location of
a few remaining Zeon bases, and bases kept that secret might have been the same ones special forces like the Cyclops
operated out of. Obviously from one pole to another is quite a trip, but everyone would have had their instruction
days to weeks before, to get themselves in place. It would seem more likely that his ship was somehow linked to
the Africa base that Gato eventually took off from, but this again is speculation. |
Zena Zavi |
Zeon Daikun - The father of a colonial belief, and the Newtype concept, Zeon
Daikun was also the father of Caspar Lum Daikun, and Artesia Daikun. When the Zavis assassinated him, Daikun's
children were taken to Earth, and given the names Edward and Salia Maas. When he reached the age of 15, Edward
joined the Zeon army as a part of his plan to exact revenge, the name he enlisted under was Char Aznable. The colonials
were told that Zeon Daikun had taken ill, and later died from the sickness, it is less commonly believed that he
was killed. |
Well that's all for now, I'll have a few more personalities as soon as I
have time to scan some of these folks into the computer, and I'll replace the GIF of Ma Kube because it doesn't
do justice to the dangerous figure the man represents. The other people I'm trying to get in here are Commander
Killing from Granada, and Lt. Burning, he and his unit were probably some bad men during the first war. The entire
Cyclops team, I'm sure 0080 wasn't the only two missions they ever ran. Then I'll try to put some information in
here about these people... Next time.
