The most turbulent period in the entire Gundam timeline was U.C. 0079 in this year the Zeon Archduchy declared a war for Independence against the Earth Federation. The Federation saw the addition of a half dozen Mobile Suits to its arsenal, and 0079 also saw the end of the period known as the One-Year War. This year was the subject of three Animated Series so far, and I not sure that it will even end there. They are MS Gundam a 43 Episode TV series (later edited into 3 theatre release movies), 0080 War in the Pocket a six episode series, and the 08th MS team, twelve episodes in all. For anyone who is interested I am making this timeline to Support a Gundam 0079 Role Playing Game, and am trying to include as many referenced dates as possible, so that a Game Master would have plenty of Events and Background to immerse his/her players in.
I'm going to be adding lots of work to this part of the site in the next week or two, watch this space for more of the One-Year War.

| 0070/03 | Zeon jamming experiments succeed in blocking RADAR signals by the scattering of Minovsky particles. As Radar is still the dominant sensor system in military vessels, military applications are readily apparent. |

| 0070/09 | The Federation commissions the construction of a new line of space cruisers, the Salamis, and Magellan. |
| 0071 | Zeon Arms Development begins working on a weapons system that is effective under the RADAR impaired conditions. The first small scale Fusion Reactor is also built using Minovsky principles in its design. |
| 0072 | Zeon builds a base on the Asteroid "Axis" in the Asteroid belt. Axis is used as a way station between the Earth and Jupiter for the Energy Fleet. |
| 0073 | Zeon completes the first new mobile weapons platform, a Mobile Suit (MS) and the unit is designated MS-01. |
| 0074/02 | Zeon rolls out a prototype MS that incorporates a Minovski type reactor, the unit is designated MS-05 Zaku. Char Aznable (Cassval Daikun), and Garma Zavi enter the Zeon military academy. |

| 0078/01 | Zeon begins mass-producing the MS-06 Zaku II, an enhanced version of the MS-05 Zaku. |
| 0078/05 | Despite the fact that the colony isn't even finished, people begin to immigrate to Side 7. |
| 0078/10 | Zeon begins to mobilize their forces in readiness for the pending attacks on the Federation. |
| 0079/01/03 | Zeon declares a war for Independence against the Federation.Zeon began with simultaneous attacks on Sides 1, 2, and 4. The days between 01/03, and 01/10 came to be known as the "One-Week War" and were brought to a sobering end when a colony re-entered the Earth's atmosphere, and crashed into Sydney Australia. Both sides used Nuclear, and Biochemical weapons indiscriminately, the resulting devastation took out a quarter of the Human race. The death toll for the week was three billion people. (The equivalent population to 1990s China wiped out in just one week.) 16% of Australia dissappears as a result of the Operation Brittish colony drop, leaving the largest man-made scar anywhere on Earth. |
| 0079/01/15 | Hundreds of Federation warships, and Zeon Mobile Suits fought each other at Side 5, the side known as Ruum.What became known as the "Battle of Ruum" was the single largest space battle in history. Char Aznable single-handedly sank 5 battleships with his customized Red Zaku, it was in this battle that a Federation soldier gave him the nickname, the "Red Comet." It was also during this battle that General Revil's flagship was destroyed, and the Black Tri-Stars, a group of Zeon ace pilots, took Revil prisoner. |
| 0079/01/16 | Side 6 declares its neutrality from the war. The basic agreement is that neither side can have bases there. Neither one can fire their weapons while inside of Side 6's territories. Also Side 6 does not sell any of its supplies to either side, or there would be none left for the civilians. |
| 0079/01/26 | A cease fire is declared, representatives from both sides meet in Antarctica, the first 23 days of the war saw almost a third of humanity vanish, catastrophic changes in the Earth's weather and environment, and the devastation of forces on both sides. |
| 0079/01/31 | Both sides sign the Antarctica Treaty, the treaty prohibited the use of Nuclear or Biochemical Weapons, and the use of Colony Drops as weapons of mass destruction that would further contribute to the already horrendous body count. General Revil makes a miraculous escape from Zeon, and arrives in time to make his famous "Zeon is Exhausted" speech to the world. |
| 0079/02/01 | The Zeon Military forms the Earth Attack Force, Garma Zavi is named as its commander. |
| 0079/02/07 | While the Federation still licked their wounds from Ruum, and cleaned up the mess from Operation British, the Zeon were busy taking over Asia, Europe, and North America. The Federation maintains a strong position in South America, but both sides are in no shape for fighting, they both take advantage of the lull in the fighting to rebuild their respective war machines. |
| 0079/03/01 | Zeon prepares mining equipment and troops to occupy the Earth's surface, and readies them to be dropped in Africa, Asia, and Europe. |

| 0079/03/18 | Zeon readies reserve forces for a third drop operation on Earth. |
| 0079/04/01 | The Earth Federation begins working on rebuilding their space fleet, Luna II, and commissions the new Pegasus class spacecruiser to carry their MS. The Federal Forces launch "Operation V" and the "Vinson Plan". Using mobile suit facilities and factories now under development, the Federal Forces begin mobile suit pilot training. |
| 0079/04/04 | Zeon military reserves drop to their bases on Earth, using captured resources and facilities they begin to replenish the Zeon war machine. |
| 0079/05 | The Space Fortress Solomon was completed at LaGrange point 5. |
| 0079/06 | Zeon completes work on the Asteroid fortress Abowaku. The Flannagan Agency is founded, and begins research into the development of a Newtype weapons system. This is the first serious research into Newtype abilities. |
| 0079/07 | Federal Forces developed a miniaturized beam weapon technology for mobile suits. The first two products of this
research were the beam rifle, and beam saber. The first of the White Base-class cruisers, the Pegasus is completed.
The White Base-class was designed to carry Mobile Suits, and uses a Minovsky Anti-Gravity engine for atmospheric
flight. The Pegasus is launched, the first Gundam is completed, and work begins on the RX-79. Manufacture of a
pre-production type Mobile Suit begins and, starting with major bases, it is distributed for testing. At the same time, development of various weapons for mobile suit support begins. The Zeon put the MS-07 Gouf into service. |
| 0079/08 | The Gundam, GunCannon, and Guntank prototypes rollout to begin testing on Side 7. Work begins at the Federation's Augusta Base on the RX-78-NT-1 a Gundam designed for Newtype pilots. |
| 0079/09/15 | The White Base-class ship Pegasus leaves Jaburo for Side 7, once there it will receive the RX series MS, and the results of their testing information for the Federal Forces back on Earth to work on the mass production Model MS. |
| 0079/09/18 | The Pegasus arrives on Side 7, and amidst a Zeon attack it takes on the RX series mobile suits, and as many refugees as it can. Amuro Rei pilots the Gundam in the first ever mobile suit battle Zeon vs. Federation. |
| 0079/10 | Zeon arms technicians are successful in producing a combat ready Beam Rifle. The Federal Forces begin genuine production of mobile suits. The Duchy military counters by fielding new machines and prototypes. The Flannagan Agency completes a prototype psycho-communicator (psycommu) system. |
| 0079/10/04 | Garma Zavi dies in battle. |
| 0079/10/06 | Giren Zavi gives an impassioned speech at his brother's funeral, he calls on all Zeon to fight the tyranny of the Earth government. The Zeon rallying cry "Sieg Zeon" is used for the first time. |
| 0079/11/07 | Federation Forces begin Operation Odessa. |
| 0079/11/09 | The Federation Completes Operation Odessa, from Europe to Asia the Zeon's military power begins to collapse. |
| 0079/11/10 | The Federal Forces hold a Naval Review. They do not publicly announce they now have mobile suits. |
| 0079/11/30 | Zeon attack the Federation Military Headquarters at Jaburo, the attack fails. |
| 0079/12/01 | The First Linear Seat style cockpit is completed, the G3 is too far along in its construction for this feature to be added. The G3 has a Core Block System which allows a Core Fighter to be used for the Mobile Suit's Cockpit. The Linear Seat doesn't fit inside of a core block system, the Linear seat will be included in the next Gundam. |
| 0079/12/05 | Federal Forces begin mop-up operations in Africa, and North America. |
| 0079/12/08 | The MS-14 Gelgoog is posted to Combat duty. This is the First Zeon Mobile suit to use both a Beam Rifle, and Two-ended Beam Saber as Standard Weapons. |
| 0079/12/09 | The Zeon covert Cyclops team attacks a Federation Base in the Arctic circle, they fail to stop a shuttle from launching which carries a payload of Gundam parts up into space. |
| 0079/12/12 | The G4 arrives at Side 6's Libol Colony. Alfred videotapes the arrival, but not the unpacking. |
| 0079/12/13 | The Pegasus returns to Space as part of the 13th Autonomous Fleet. At Side 6, there is a Zeon attack on the Libol colony there. Bernard Wiseman is shot down on his first mission, but takes information about the missing Gundam back with him when he escapes to Granada, base on the Moon. |
| 0079/12/14 | Federation begins Operation Star One ships including Pegasus, and other MS carriers head for space with GM mobile suits. Bernard Wiseman is assigned to the Cyclops team to replace their fallen comrade Andy, and move against the G4 on the Libol Colony. The Pegasus meets and destroys Doren's orbital patrol. Zeon Forces attack the Libol colony of Side 6. This attack was a breach of Side 6's Neutral status, and was used to get Bernard Wiseman and a ship full of Mobile Suit parts into the colony. |
| 0079/12/17 | Pegasus arrives at Side 6. |
| 0079/12/19 | Operation Rubicon begins at 4 PM with the Attack Commencing at 6 PM. A Zeon Kampfer MS attacks the Secret Federation
Base in the Libol Colony. MS are launched to intercept it from the White Base-Class ship Grey Phantom, presumably
it was there to pick up the RX-78 NT-1 when its testing was complete. The Kamfer makes a mess of the Federation
defenses, but is quickly by the Gundam. The colony wall was ruptured in the attack, and 246 persons were found
dead, another 572 wounded from the Attack. White Base leaves Side 6 under protection of a Side 6 offical. WB is chased after by the Zeon fleet headed by Conscon. Shortly thereafter Conscon's fleet is destroyed just outside of Side 6's territory in the first televised show of the Gundam's power. Commander Killing of Zeon shoots the Commander of the Granada Moon Base, and commandeers Nuclear Missiles for his fleet. |
| 0079/12/20 | Bernard Wiseman salvages parts from GMs to repair his downed Zaku still laying where it fell Dec 13th. |
| 0079/12/21 | The Pegasus enters the Texas Colony, it was being used at the time by Char, and Lalah Sun for testing of the new Mobile Armor Elmeth. Amuro meets Lalah Sun, and duels with Char, but doesn't really engage the Elmeth. |
| 0079/12/24 | The Federation Attacks the Zeon Space Fortress Solomon, a long battle ensues, almost ending in defeat for the Federation when the Zeon Mobile Armor Big Zam came onto the battlefield. However the Mobile Armor is defeated, and Dozzle Zavi dies defending his fortress to the last. |
| 0079/12/25 | The Battle of Solomon is a victory for the Federation, the begin occupying the base. A second Zeon attack on the Federation Base at Libol, this time a Zaku engages the Gundam in the Forest outside of the base, no casualty numbers were given. The Federation swarmed Solomon, and renamed it Konpeitoh after the battle was over. They actually slowed down more to take over the asteroid, and occupy it, than they ever did fighting against its defenders. |
| 0079/12/30 | Degin Zavi, and General Revil are both killed during peace negotiations when Giren fires the Solar Ray System at the heart of both fleets. While the attack succeeded in wiping out 60% of the Federation forces it did not have the effect of stopping the Federation war machine, and the Zeon forces were still brought to heel by the opressive numbers of the Feds. |
| 0079/12/31 | The Battle of Abowaku, Zeon's last fortress falls to the overwhelming momentum of the Federation forces, and their cause isn't helped any by the murder of their Supreme Commander Giren Zavi, by his sister Krishia, nor later when Krishia is killed by Char. With these kinds of odds, and mounting losses, Admiral Delaz calls his fleet back, and orders a strategic withdrawal. The Federation occupies the Fortress at Abowaku. |
| 0080/01/01 | The One Year War ends. The Earth Federation government and Republic of Zeon conclude a peace accord on the moon. After preliminary negotiations at Anman, the formal signing takes place at Granada. |
