Sengoku - A Hunting Trip, Gone Horribly, Horribly Wrong!
- Part I
Yabu the Archer is wandering central Japan, he'd heard his companion Toshiro was now the Hatamoto of a small farmiing
village. Yama, a peniless Ronin wandered into this same town about the same time. Yabu wandered around the streets
calling Toshiro's name, and Yama began to wonder if Yabu might cause trouble in town. Armed only with his family
swords, Yama made sure to keep himself between Yabu and any of the innocent townsfolk.
Meanwhile Toshiro had just recieved a message from a courier telling him that one of the Shogun's Nephews was coming
to visit Toshiro. Tokugawa had taken the lad for the summer while his father (a great general) was fighting in
Korea. Unfortunately Iyeasu was now so busy with the duties of being Shogun, he had little time to entertain his
nephew Hikaru, and hoped Toshiro could take him in, teach him to ride a horse, and shoot a bow. A short hunt in
the mountains near Toshiro's village would be enough to make the boy, and his father happy. This would be Toshiro's
first lesson in the responsibilities a noble must assume when serving their masters. If he succeeded in this task,
he might one day become caretaker of the Shogun's Hunting Lodge, or some other more prominent position.
A local boy ran into Toshiro's house, and told his manservant
Shiro that there was a ruffian in town making trouble and telling stories about Toshiro killing bandits. Toshiro
gave the boy two silver Monme-ita coins, and instructed him to tell the Innkeeper to feed Yabu, and then give the
second coin to him to get him to leave in the morning. The boy ran to the inn, and did as he was told.
Yabu and Yama entered the local inn, Yabu ordered some sake,
and some ricecakes, he bought a round of drinks for the inn, and asked to buy the ronin Yama some of whatever he
was drinking. Yama said he did not take to strong drink, but would have some Tea.
I rememeber Neil would take a story hook here, and we began playing 'Messenger:
The Role-Playing Game' so I pushed a bit to see what would happen.
Yabu was sitting in the inn, talking with Yama and recounting
his tales of bold lord Toshiro, and the time he slew the unarmed peasants. Yama's took notice of that one, as did
no small number of the peasants in the inn, Toshiro had been their new lord and master for less than a week, and
none of them had yet taken the measure of their new lord.
The Innkeeper told his daughter to go find Toshiro before
there was too much panic in the inn.
"You there" Yabu and Itoh looked at each other for a second, and Yabu spoke "why do you not answer
this great lord, he obviously needs you for something" Itoh looked back at him as if to say something but...
Ok this part still needs punching up, a little, and I don't remember
which scenes happened this game session, or the next one... so I think everyting after this will be session 3 when
we got ready to work in the Shukenja
That's it so far...
