Welcome back to the page for my Kingdoms of Kalamar campaign, Heroes in Darkness.

It has been ten years since the famed Heroes of the Coin assaulted the Witches Stronghold.

Ten years since they tried to defeat Daresh and failed.

Ten long years under Daresh's evil reign.

And now some, darker evil threatens the world, for now the very power that Daresh used to subjugate the north casts its withering gaze hungrily upon the West.

In the year 744 the Heroes of the Coin set out to defeat the evil with Daresh. They had won the loyalty of the Warrior Strom, sought the aid of a Dragon in the desert of the far east, and brought precious treasures from far and wide to forge a coin.

A coin of Justice.

The Coin completed, the Heroes trudged north, entrusting the coin to Katarina. In the frozen north they faced many perils, defeated a clever Devil, fought many battles and won the respect of a beseiged Elven Prince. Wrapped in the finest Elven Cloaks and carrying the still damaged Instant Fortress, they crept silently into the army camp around the witches stronghold past complacent sentries and into the witches tower.

There they fought Daresh's gargoyles, and raced up the tower before anyone could raise the alarm.

The witch had known they were coming, watched them with her scrying as she always had, and when they reached her chamber a final trap was sprung, with a flash of glowing blue light from the floor, all of the heroes shifted to another plane.

All but Katarina, Daresh, not to be defeated drew in all the might of the coin, and disintegrated the last hero. The fading blue glow on the floor all that remained of the contingency spell Daresh had cast hours before.

Now she could prepare for the child's coming with no interruptions.

The heroes awaken to find themselves unceremoniously dropped onto the northern plains, first Salzazar, then Vonomir, Evir and Naish. All awakened to a dark night sky, black as pitch with but a few faint stars. But for the sky this was the same spot they had camped upon the plain after a long night on the road.

As they pondered their predicament there was a bright flash, and Katarina, half afire with red searing light fell to earth beside them.
