In Mekton every character starts out with a question; WHO or WHAT do I want to play?  Will you portray a heroic soldier, or handsome pilot. The concept is what sets anime characters apart from one another, in Mekton it is typical that a GM may require all of the PCs to play pilots, but why your pilot is different from all the rest is up to you.

Secondly to help you add depth to your character you roll up a history for them. Some GMs will let you just choose the events of your character’s life, but these charts, taken from popular anime plots might help you come up with a good background fast.

Then once you have a character and his story, you can start assigning him or her the skills they need to be a pilot, pirate, soldier-mechanic, mecha-jock, or punk-rock idol.

Mobile Suit Gundam Character Creation and Profession Templates

Gundam characters for Mekton Zeta should be around 60 point characters, the appeal of the series is its gritty realism, not its flashy mecha jocks. Then choose the age for the character, most of the characters will still be in their teens, but definitely not over 24, again the veterans and old men have all died in the war, the youth of the Earth now battle for her final destiny.

Adapt the standard Mecha Jock profession for all character pilots, but Federation pilots can't take the profession more than once. The Federation only had Tankers and Aerospace pilots before they got mechs. I've also adapted a Flight Officer profession off of the Military Officer profession so you can play a Lieutenant or something similar with Mecha skills. In the spirit of Uniform training methods, and minimum test requirements, I let the players have ALL of the points they could gain from their military professions, instead of picking 5, simulating some basic knowledge of all the areas covered. The following professions are created just for Gundam Mekton Zeta.

Tanker (7 Points)

Handgun +1, Awareness +1, Gunnery +1, Missile Weapon +1, Driving +1, Expert: Navigation +1, Electronic Warfare +1

Aerospace Pilot (7 Points)
